What time do the gates open? Symbiosis 2012 will open at 10AM on Thursday, May 17th.
Will water be available onsite? The availability of water onsite is limited. Please pack your own water in bulk and make sure to ration at least one gallon per person per day.
Will swimming in the lake be allowed? Yes! The lake is open to all attendees during daytime hours within the festival area.
Is it ok to go skinny-dipping? No, it is against tribal regulations to be nude in public. Please remember to pack your bathing suit when entering the water during designated swimming hours. Will there be playa dust like at Burning Man? No. The ground at the venue is hard packed dirt in the upper area where the electronic music and many of the vending options will be placed. The grounds down by the lake are a softer mixture of grass and soil where the walk in camping and some the staging is located. What will the weather be like? The yearly averages are: 75 F (24 C) Daytime 55 F (13 C) Nighttime though temperatures have been up to 90 F (32 c) and as low as 20 F (-7 c). We will keep you updated as we get closer to the event. It can get cold at night in May, so it is very important to bring layers. What are the dates of the gathering? May 17-21, 2012, There is also a limited amount of early entrance passes for sale that will allow you to enter the festival on May 16th at 10AM.
Which area of the lake will the festival grounds be on? The Eastern shore.
Are the festival grounds open to the general public year round? No. This area is closed to the general public year round. Also public gatherings have not been allowed in this area for over a quarter century. Will fishing be allowed? Fishing will not be permitted within the grounds of the festival. However you could stop at the general store in Nixon to inquire about fishing elsewhere at Pyramid Lake.
Will boating be allowed? Not within the festival grounds.
Is the car pass considered a car camping pass? All cars on the Paiute Reservation must have a permit. Car camping is limited and available on a first come first serve basis. There will be plenty of scenic walk-in camping. Do I need to bring my own eclipse glasses? Glasses for viewing the eclipse will be provided but feel free to bring your own!
What is the protocol for kids 12 and under? Kids 12 and under are free! However if your 12 and under child looks like he/she may be quite a bit older you may want to bring a copy of their birth certificate to ensure your transition through the gate is a smooth one. Are there any rules pertaining to kids under 18? Yes all minors must be accompanied by an adult. Will there be a kids area or a kids camp? Yes there will be a kids camp that should be fun for kids of all ages. Will there be general accommodations? No, the only accommodations will be the ones you bring for yourself. Is there a deadline for submitting participant applications? Yes. If you would like to submit an application we would advise that you do it ASAP. The deadline was originally going to be March 1 but due to the large response we’ve had applications may be closed much sooner. How will I receive the tickets I purchased? You can choose to print the ticket at home or you may get them sent to your house by paying for shipping. There will also be will call at this event. Will there be a VIP area? Everyone is a VIP.
Will fires be allowed? No campfires but there will designated community bonfires, feel free to bring wood to add to the community fire areas. Will fire spinning be allowed? Not without a permit. If interested in obtaining one please request more details at email@example.com. Can I bring my pets? Unfortunately there will be NO pets allowed at this event. (Except for guests with disabilities that require service animals) Can I bring my generator? Generators will be allowed in the car camping area not in the walk in camping. Will there be vendors at the gathering? YES! There will be plenty of food and drink vendors. There will also be awesome merchandise, clothing, art, ect vendors as well. Can I bring my own food and alcohol? Food and beverages are allowed in festival grounds. Glass containers will not be allowed, please pour any alcohol you wish to bring into plastic containers. Any glass bottles will be removed from the attendees possession upon entry to the festival. Are there in-and-out passes available? There are no ins an outs please come prepared. Special arrangements may be made for those living on tribal land. Will restrooms be available? Yes, restrooms will be available. What are the camping areas like? Camping will be in a combination of dirt, sand, sage brush, and rocks of all sizes. Shoes are essential. Bring shade! Shade structures will be throughout the event area but campgrounds will not have shade provided. Spacious walk-in camping is available near the Kidbiosis, the workshop area, and the Earth stage. Picnic tables will be near a food vending area. Cooking your food at the campground is permitted but fires are not allowed. Will showers be available? Showers are not guaranteed so it will be best to bring you own solar shower. Baby wipes are also a great alternative as long as they are packed out properly.
